With Chinese New Year just around the corner, there’ll soon be plenty of open-house parties and big dinners to attend. Whether it’s a reunion dinner with your family or a fun lunch affair with your friends and colleagues, one thing’s for sure – you’ve got to look fabulous! Here are 5 Spring-inspired looks to rock this festive season!
1. Red for Good Luck
You can’t go wrong with red during this auspicious time of year! Keep your skin matte with a light dusting of translucent powder. Apply a red blush onto the outer corners of your eyes and blend it out towards the sides of your temples, and down onto your cheekbones. Apply lots of black mascara to frame the eyes and finish the look with lacquered cherry-red lips.
2. Peaches for Longevity
In Chinese culture, peaches are symbols of unity and immortality. Channel your inner immortal goddess with peachy pink and apricot shades on your eyes. Fill in your brows with a powder and brush them upwards for a clean and youthful look. Take a darker shade of peach and apply it in a sculptural manner right below your cheekbones. Top your lips with a lip balm or a peachy gloss for a hint of sheen.
3. Yellow for Prosperity
Yellow was the emperor’s colour in Imperial China, and symbolized royalty and prestige. It can be a refreshing and cheerful colour to rock on your eyes too! Apply a wash of butternut squash shade of yellow all over the base of your eyelids and blend it into your socket line with a fluffy eyeshadow brush. Keep the rest of your makeup warm with a hint of bronzer and a soft rosy stain on your lips.
4. Orange for Vitality
Instead of the usual reds and pinks, go for a bright coral lip! Leave your skin dewy and fresh and your eyelids bare to keep the overall look clean and modern. You can go for a little kitten flick using a black liquid eyeliner or simply curl your eyelashes and apply 2 coats of dark brown mascara for some definition. For long lasting lip colour, opt for matte textures or apply your lipstick as a stain.
5. Gold for Wealth and Abundance
When in doubt, go for gold! And I’m talking about gold in the form of highlighters! Apply a sheer layer of foundation and conceal any spots and blemishes to keep the skin looking flawless. Dust a light layer of translucent powder onto your t-zone. Apply a gold (or rose gold) highlighter onto the top of your eyelids, on top of your cheekbones, and onto your cupid’s bow for an iridescent shine. Complete the look with a metallic bronze or rose gold lipstick and you’re all set to party the night away!
