I love this look so much because it utilises one of my favourite makeup tricks ever: lipstick as eyeshadow! Actress Yara Shahidi’s full-time makeup artist Emily Cheng used Bobbi Brown’s Luxe Matte Lipstick in Burnt Cherry, on Yara’s eyes, lips, and cheeks, layering on the burnt red berry shade in different levels for a monochromatic watercolour-inspired look.
“Using monochromatic colors is one of my favorite ways to do makeup,” Emily told Teen Vogue. “But we’ve amped it up this time by creating a deconstructed version much like the way watercolor on paper can have a mind and beauty of its own as it washes over in varied intensity. You’ll see this mimicked especially on the eyes. I find something about monochromatic makeup to be extremely sophisticated.”
Yara’s glowing complexion also comes courtesy of a pretty luxe makeup hack. Instead of water, Emily opted to soak her Beautyblender in SK-II Facial Treatment Essence before layering on Bobbi Brown’s SPF Longwear Foundation.
