Three Tuesdays ago, I went on a road trip to Cameron Highlands for a skin-revitalizing getaway with Kiehl’s. Stress, a lingering flu bug, and lack of sleep were getting to me, and it reflected badly on my skin. So when I was presented with the opportunity for a two-day skin vacation, I jumped at the chance!
On the morning of the first day, we stopped by Ye Olde Smokehouse for a delightful and quintessentially English lunch. It was a long bus ride from KL to Cameron, so the charming old hotel was a welcome sight with its pretty stone walls, wooden windows and well-manicured gardens. We settled in for a comforting meal of roasted chicken and taters, cream of asparagus soup, and custard-filled apple crumble.
What’s New In Skincare
After lunch, Kiehl’s shared with us their two new major launches for Spring this year. I will be posting a review on the Pure Vitality Skin Renewing Cream and the Midnight Recovery Botanical Cleansing Oil soon, so stay tuned for that! [Update: Read my review here]
The former is a highly emollient cream that boosts cell regeneration and strengthens the skin’s natural barrier; while the latter is a lightweight cleansing oil that gently dissolves all traces of makeup, sunscreen and dirt particles. I’m especially excited about the cleansing oil because it’s extremely easy to use, and you don’t even have to go in for a double cleanse!
Quality Time With My Skin
Later in the afternoon, we paid a visit to the Lavender farm where we got to try natural house-made lavender ice cream. We also got to check out the nursery before heading to Cameron Highlands Resort for dinner. Before turning in for the night, I tried out the new cleansing oil and decided to give myself a little facial massage while I was at it. I then applied a layer of the Pure Vitality cream like an overnight mask. It felt good to be able to take some time to pamper my skin, as I often forget to relax and indulge back home.
The next morning, I woke up bright and early to enjoy a quiet breakfast of black coffee and a protein-packed omelette next to a window overlooking the grounds of the resort. I then joined the crew to visit the tea plantation, which was a breathtaking way to end the trip.
Although it takes a little effort, any time spent taking care of ourselves and our skin is definitely time well spent. And though stress can be overwhelming sometimes, it’s always important to take a step back and revel in the little pleasures that life throws our way. After all, it’s the little steps we take that make our lives, and our skin, a whole lot better.
On the whole, this little getaway has been an invigorating and rejuvenating experience. If you’ve never been on a skin holiday, I highly recommend that you try it! It really does your soul, and your skin, a world of good!
