Genderless beauty is a constant force on the runways, reflecting the balance of masculine and feminine energy that resides within us. Journey back in time with us as we pay homage to the individuals who have shaped the face of androgyny as we know it.
Russian poet, playwright and novelist, Zinaida Gippius, was one of the most influential figures in Russian Symbolism and literature. Her style of writing was genderless, and she steered away from female intonations. Her practice of gender neutrality extended to her clothes, and she was oft seen dressed as a man in public. Unfazed by social exclusion and condemnation, her adventurous strong-willed nature allowed her to explore supernatural and subliminally sexual themes in her stories – quite unheard of by women of her time. She was progressive, and wasn’t afraid to show it.
