Daydreaming about that beach vacation already? I know I am!
Here’s what you can pack in your beach bag for your next holiday by the sea.
Obviously. You can’t go out and have fun in the sun without any form of skin protection! I’ve probably mentioned this before, but a sun protection factor of 50 is important for prolonged exposure to UV rays. And you can’t just apply it once on your face and body and forget all about it! You have to at least reapply it every 2 hours as it will wear off when you perspire or go for a dip in the ocean. Try opting for water resistant formulations as they’re more durable. I tend to prefer unscented and moisturizing sunscreens. Here are some of my favourites:
ALOE VERA GEL
This stuff is a life saver. It helps to soothe sunburns and skin irritations. It feels cool to the touch and I would describe it as an instant ice pack in jelly form. You can also use it to moisturize the ends of your hair to prevent it from getting dried out by seawater. You can get Aloe Vera gel from any local pharmacy. I especially love the ones made by Korean skincare brands.
THERMAL WATER SPRAY
Thermal sprays help to soothe and hydrate the skin. Trust me, you don’t want to feel and look like a dried shriveled-up prune at the end your sunbathing session. Keep your skin moisturized and refreshed by spritzing a vitamin infused facial mist onto your face every now and then. You can even bring a bottle of your homemade hydrating spray by mixing filtered water with 2-3 drops of skincare oils, like chamomile or jojoba oil.
Nothing perks up the face like a healthy injection of colour. And it’s so easy to fake it with makeup! Don’t forget to pack a long-wearing bright lipstick that you can double up as rouge for your cheeks. You can’t go wrong with striking fuchsias, reds and corals! Pat the lipstick onto your lips and blot it to create an almost indelible stain.
CONCEALER & CC CREAM
Instead of hiding your skin under foundation, try using a high coverage long-wearing concealer only on areas where you really need it. If you just want something to even out your complexion a wee bit, try applying a thin layer of colour correcting (CC) cream. Most CC creams come with additional sun protection too.
Other than these top 5 beauty items, I suggest bringing a pair of sunnies, a cute floppy beach hat, a bath towel, a bottle of water, a pair of sandals and little snacks like nuts and crackers to munch on in case you get peckish. Now go book that seaside holiday – you deserve a break!
