Carolina Herrera de Baez, the woman behind Carolina Herrera fragrances, sat down with Marie Claire Malaysia to share about the creative process and inspiration to their brand new fragrance, the Good Girl. She also lets us in on some quick-fire facts about herself and her personal goals for the year.
Run us through the process of the creation of Carolina Herrera Good Girl? It was a very long creative process, that took more than 2 years. All the different teams work at the same time – bottle design, the perfumist, the campaign and the story, but usually the most important aspect is getting the juice just right. In Good Girl, the bottle also presented a challenge for us, both technically and aesthetically.
Tell us about the meaning behind the name Good Girl? I wanted to highlight the duality of women. We can be good but we can also be a bit naughty. We are mysterious, sensual and powerful.
Would you say you consider yourself a good girl—with a bit of a bad side? Definitely!
Why is the bottle a shoe heel? There is nothing women love more than a wonderfully sexy heel. It’s empowering and very feminine.
What was the very first perfume you received? Anais Anais!
Tell us about your first scent memory. The smell of my mother who used to mix oils of tuberose and jasmine since I can remember. I also remember the smell of wet dirt after a tropical rainstorm.
How did you select the notes that you would associate with being a ‘Good girl’ The perfumist, Louise Turner was able to interpret our idea of a Good Girl to perfection. Light notes, such as jasmine and dark notes, tonka bean were mixed to create a sensual and intoxicating scent.
Tell us 5 interesting things about you. Ohh, how difficult… I love dogs, condensed milk, rainstorms, movies and silence. I read a lot and I love being alone. I would have also loved to have had more children!
Do you have a mentor? Many. My life is full of them. I learn something new (or different) from someone everyday.
Why did you decide on a career in perfume? It came to me and I just fell in love.
What is your favourite natural scent? Flowers, especially jasmine.
Can you share some sartorial new year’s resolutions with us? Be more consistent with exercising! I also want to start 21 day cleanse!
Describe your personal style. I have a healthy and normal relationship with fashion. I love beautiful things but I am not obsessed and I am not a fashion victim. I don’t care nor follow the latest trends.
