So you’ve just made the chop, good on you! Short bobs and textured lobs are perfect for the summer season, and they’re really fun to style. Here, I’ll show you how to create 2 easy braided hairstyles for your new cut.
And if you have long hair, you can adapt these styles to suit your hair length. Quick tip, you’ll want to start with 2 to 3-day old hair as you’ll have more texture and grip to work with. And don’t forget dry shampoo and your favourite hairspray.
Are you ready? Let’s begin!
Hairstyle #1 – The Half Up Crown Braid
Step 1: Prep
Start by spritzing the roots of your hair with some dry shampoo or texturising spray. Greasy hair tends to fall flat as the oils will weigh down on your strands, so dry shampoo will help to instantly add volume and texture to your hair.
Step 2: Curl
To create extra texture to your hairstyle, I recommend curling it beforehand. Here, I’m using the GHD Platinum White Styler – it glides on smoothly and is very easy to use. It’s also optimised at 185°C so you won’t have to worry about hair breakage and damaged ends. Since the heat is evenly distributed throughout the entire panel, it will help you achieve a more defined and long-lasting curl.
Step 3: Braid
Once your hair is all nicely curled, part your hair at the middle and create a Dutch braid on both sides, adding hair only from the bottom section. Fan out the braids by tugging at them gently with your fingers. Secure the two braids in place with an elastic band and you’re done! You can hide the band by covering it with a pretty hair accessory.
Hairstyle #2 – The Braided Headband
This hairstyle is so easy to do, and you don’t have to be neat – the messier the better! The idea is to create an effortless texture – like you just got out of bed with natural tousled waves.
Step 1: Prep
Just like the previous hairstyle, prep your hair beforehand with some dry shampoo.
Step 2: Curl Random Sections
Using that same GHD styler, I curled random sections of hair. Don’t fret if you don’t have enough time to curl your whole head of hair. Just curling the outer strands of hair will create extra volume and dimension to your look.
Step 3: Braid
Part your hair at the side and create a simple French braid on both sides. Secure the braids with bobby pins, pretty clips or elastic bands to keep them in place. To frame the face and keep the look soft and romantic, pull out some hair at the front and curl it simply to create loose waves.
