Who knew curling your hair with a straightener could be so easy?
At the recent Sephora Fall/Winter press event, I caught up with Robert Resnick, professional hairstylist and Lead Educator of GHD (Good Hair Day), to chat about curls, summer hairstyles, and the new Wanderlust collection.
What’s the inspiration behind the new Wanderlust collection?
As the name suggests, this collection is all about travel, adventure, and beauty inspired by countries all around the globe. We’ve created four different themes just for this limited edition range – New Bohemian, Modern Romance, Red Carpet Luxe and Adornment, which are all perfect looks for summer (for tutorials on how to create these looks, check out GHD’s YouTube channel here).
Any tips on how to make curls last on straight and stubborn hair?
It’s always important to prep your hair beforehand. Spritz on some heat protectant and curl holding spray or cream before applying any heat to it. When curling each strand of hair, work in sections – this technique creates more bounce and structure to your hair, and your waves will look more pronounced this way.
What hairstyle do you recommend for outdoor events where it’s windy and humid?
I recommend putting your hair up into an updo or a braid, and curling loose sections of hair to frame the face. This way, you won’t have to worry about your full head of curls unraveling and going limp halfway through your event.
How do you curl your hair if you only have about 5 minutes to get ready?
Easy – just tie your hair into two high pigtails, and curl your hair with a curling wand or straightener. It should take about four to five sections each hair, depending on the thickness of your hair. Once you’re done, remove the hair ties and set your curls with a blast of hairspray.
And here, Rob shows us how to create effortless bohemian waves using the GHD Wanderlust Styler in Amber Sunrise:
I absolutely loved the final result – and my curls stayed bouncy and voluminous all the way till the next evening. The styler is incredibly smooth and easy to use too – and totally travel-friendly! Here’s a closer look at my ’70s inspired bohemian waves:
