The usual lippie looks just won’t cut it anymore. From holographic ombré lips to juicy berry stains, here are 6 three-dimensional looks that’ll perk up that pout in a jiffy!
A popular Korean trend this year, dual-toned lips are a statement all on their own. You can either apply different coloured lipsticks separately on your top and bottom lip, or go for a gradient effect. Here, we’ve chosen to go with the former. We recommend using matte textures for this as they last longer throughout the day, and won’t cause the colours to blend in messily with each other.
Get your fill of dark chocolate with this rich and decadent number. First, line and fill in your lips with a rosy brown lip liner – this will be the base for your lipstick. Then apply a creamy brown lipstick onto your lips, straight from the bullet. Blot your lips with a piece of tissue paper to create a stain and apply a second layer of lipstick. A metallic gold highlighter on the cupid’s bow would be the icing on the cake. Pair your dark cocoa lips with coppery eyes and gold-tinted brows.
Take the berry stain look to the next level by layering a plum-coloured gloss on top. We’re trying to create an ultra juicy look – like you’ve just eaten some lip-smacking berries. Start by applying concealer to tone down the natural pigment of your lips. Then take a berry hued lipstick or tint of your choice and dab it only onto the inner corners of your lips. Smack your lips together and use your fingers to diffuse the colour. As a final touch, add a touch of gloss on top for a succulent shine.
We can’t get enough of metallics, and gilded lips are a huge trend this season. Apply a nude lip liner all over your lips before coating it with several layers of metallic lipstick. Here, we’ve opted for a dusty rose gold shade, but you can even go for copper, bronze, gold, or any other colour with flecks of glitter in it. To create a 3D effect, highlight the centre of your lips with a shimmery pink highlighter.
You didn’t think we were going to let you miss out on all that glitter fun, did you? Glitter is coming back this fall, and boy does it know how to make an entrance! To create this cherry glitter explosion look, fill in your lips with a cherry-coloured lip liner before applying two layers of a cream-based ruby-toned lipstick on top. For a little extra something, add a touch of shimmery violet on top – this will really bring out that ruby red hue. Finally, pack on diamond-shaped glitter particles onto your lips using a dense flat-tipped brush. Creamy lipsticks create a sticky surface for the glitter to cling to.
The holographic unicorn trend won’t be slowing down any time soon. To create that iridescent ombré effect, start by lining your lips with a nude lip liner, extending it slightly out of your natural lip line to create a full and luscious pout. Fill in your lips with a shimmery mauve lipstick, and highlight the centre with a pearlescent pink highlighter. Darken the outer corners of your lips with a metallic plum shade and add a dab of glittery blue at the edges for a futuristic sheen.
