I’m always on the lookout for the next big thing in anti-aging skincare. And just about now, plant stem cells are right smack at the top of my list in innovative and effective anti-wrinkle treatments.
Plant stem cells are essentially the beating heart of plant life and vitality, and are able to self-renew and regenerate to maintain the plant’s overall stem cell count. They do not age, but instead have the power to facilitate growth and organ production (leaves and flowers) throughout the plant’s lifetime. In a word, they are immortal.
What’s the difference between plant and skin stem cells?
Unlike plant stem cells, skin stem cells will deteriorate over time, becoming damaged and unproductive as we get on in years. Stem cells divide and form new skin cells to renew the external layers of our skin. However, this process is slowed down as we age, and less skin cells will be produced, leading to a breakdown in collagen production. Wrinkles will begin to form, and lines will start to deepen.
How do plant stem cells factor into anti-aging skincare?
As reported in Nourished Life, plant stem cells contain a powerfully potent amount of antioxidants – up to 1,000 times that of other botanical extracts! Clinical studies show that plant stem cell skincare has been proven to stimulate collagen production and cell renewal, and reduce the signs of photo-aging.
Gotu Kola stem cells in particular are suitable for sensitive skin, and are able to soothe skin inflammations like eczema and rosacea by protecting the skin’s moisture barrier and retaining the skin’s hydration levels.
A new innovation – Mary Kay Timewise Repair™
Combining a nourishing blend of Gotu Kola stem cells, Tripeptide-1 (a peptide that supports skin repair), and a hyaluronic acid-boosting peptide, Mary Kay has developed an entire skincare line dedicated to minimize and prevent signs of photo-aging.
My favourites from the range are the Volu-Firm™ Lifting Serum (RM330), Eye Renewal Cream (RM250), and Retinol Night Treatment (RM250). The serum is incredibly lightweight and absorbs easily into the skin, and has a mild botanical scent. And if your skin is feeling particularly dehydrated, the night cream with retinol is an intensely rich treatment to brighten dull and sallow skin. After application, my parched skin feels instantly moisturised, without feeling like there’s something heavy sitting uncomfortably on the skin.
The eye cream comes in a tube with a cool metal applicator to help de-puff tired and swollen eyes, which I can really appreciate. As I tend to have puffy eye bags, I’ve seen a notable improvement in the reduction of lines under my eyes. It works as a great base for my under eye concealer as well. If you’re looking to introduce plant stem cell skincare into your routine, Timewise Repair is a great kit to get you started.
Other products in the range include the Day Cream with SPF30 (RM250) and Foaming Cleanser (RM135). To find out more about the range, get in touch with a consultant at 03-7711 7500, or visit
