Sephora hopes to spark conversation around preconceived notions of beauty, to break barriers of what success means to women with their brand new Beauty ReWritten campaign. Through this campaign they hope to spark inspiration to challenge the status quo and celebrate the diversity of beauty, beyond what meets the eye.
The campaign features eight women of different ages, race and cultural background, ranging from Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, and Australia. The two ladies representing Malaysia are Nadira Yussof and Sandhya Manoj.
Nadira not only runs six different businesses, she sees her biggest achievement as her role of a mother of six children. “I am honoured to be part of a campaign that empowers women to embrace their own definition of beauty,” said Nadira. “Beauty to me,” she added, “is my strength. For being able to stand up for myself and to be where I am today.”
Meanwhile, Sandhya Manoj, is an an accomplished yoga master and Odissi dancer, sees how superficial society’s definition of beauty can be. The mother of two daughters, who has been invited to perform all over Malaysia and India has often questioned what makes women beautiful. “I find that when I identify myself to my job or my motherhood, people have such a compartmentalized definition of me,” said Sandhya. “People do not see me as who I am internally which is much more important. And that’s what beauty is to me. Everything that shows as external beauty is a portrayal of a beauty within.”

“As a brand, Sephora has always been dedicated to making women feel confident and empowered,” said Valerie Foong, the Country General Manager for Sephora Malaysia. “With this campaign, we want to demonstrate that beauty should be celebrated beyond face value; we seek to contest archaic beauty standards.” Valerie added, “ It has become our mission to drive a dialogue among women to challenge society’s preconceived notions of beauty as also to bring fearless women in the spotlight with the hopes of meeting others.”
