It’s 7am on a Monday. You have to get ready for work but you still feel like you could use another hour of sleep, plus you kind of feel a sore throat coming. You decide to hit the snooze button and end up waking up close to 10am! You stare at the clock in dismay – Drat! With no time at all to get ready, you dash like a mad woman to the office. You find eyes glaring at your unmade-up face and unkempt hair. Your colleagues come up to you and say “Wow, you look really tired” or “Gosh, you look really sick. Are you feeling okay?”. You know they’re probably just asking you out of concern, but it makes you feel even worse than you already do.
If you’ve ever had one of those sick and tired days, here are some tips on how you can look fresh and awake in no more than 10 to 15 minutes:
Before brushing your teeth, slap on a brightening and plumping mask to give your skin an instant surge of hydration. While you’re brushing your teeth, the mask will have at least 3 to 5 minutes to work on your skin and lift any underlying sallowness.
The skin tends to look and feel dehydrated when you’re feeling under the weather. If your skin is dry and patchy from constantly blowing your nose and rubbing your eyes, skip the foundation and keep your skin moisturized with creams and hydrating mists. Don’t forget to moisturize your lips as well and apply sunscreen if you’re going out.
Go for healthy flush of colour to trick others and yourself into thinking you look well-rested. For a quick pick-me-up, use a bright lipstick and apply it onto your lips and cheeks. Go for corals, reds and fuchsias as they tend to light up the face. Creamy textures add an instant radiant glow to the face too.
To brighten up the eye area, dab on some illuminating concealer onto the inner corners and dark areas under your eyes and pat it into place. Also remember to curl your eyelashes and apply at least 2 good coats of waterproof mascara, concentrating on the roots for some added definition on the upper lash line. If your eyes feel tired and irritated, put two metal teaspoons into the freezer overnight and place them over your eyes in the morning to reduce any puffiness. You can also apply some eye drops to reduce any redness and irritation.
When you’re feeling tired, it’s so much more tempting to dress like a frump queen and go for dark coloured and loose fitting clothes. To glam up a simple out, try accessorizing with scarves, necklaces, earrings and pretty hair pins or headbands. They’re easy to put on and make you look like you made an effort to dress up.
