It’s that time of year again, when we reflect on the old and make way for the new. And that goes for beauty too! I’ve summed up 5 of the top trends that I think will be really important in 2017!
1. Going Green
With brands like Kat Von D Beauty and Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics offering an amazing range of high quality cruelty-free products, almost everyone is now hopping onto the green vegan bandwagon. Plant-powered skincare and makeup are on the rise, with brands now marketing their products differently. Using words like “no phthalates” and “paraben-free”. It has become not only a choice, but almost a requirement in the production and branding of products. I’m definitely looking forward to more new and improved innovations along this line.
2. The Colour of the Year
Goes to Pantone colour 15-0343 Greenery! It’s the colour of fresh starts, new beginnings, hope, and inspiration. As described by Pantone, this bright yellow-green shade represents “the re-connection we seek with nature and all.” It’s a colour that seeks to “revive, restore and renew” – a season of refreshing change and vibrant life for the New Year ahead.
3. Celebrating Individual Beauty
Because everyone is beautiful in his/her own way. It sounds super cliche, but there you have it! We’re all different and unique, and I say we embrace who we are as individuals. Go with the flow, and by that I mean to go with what suits you and your style best!
4. Even More Innovation
This year we’ve seen gold and “unicorn” masks, peel-off lip and eyebrow tattoos, green colour-changing makeup and vibrating makeup sponges, amongst other things. For 2017, we’re looking forward to bigger and brighter innovations, like new and improved cushion foundations, multi-functional double-ended tools, even cooler gadgets, local skincare/makeup alternatives, and newfound ingredients. I can’t wait to discover and share them all with you!
5. Healing Aromatherapy
This year, we’ve seen an increase in aromatherapy-based skincare, with brands like The Body Shop, Origins, THREE, Jurlique and Mt Sapola adopting the spa ethic into their line of products. By combining the power of soothing and healing scents with effective skincare, you get an all-encompassing product that brings balance to both the mind and body. I’m excited to see what’s in store for the coming year ahead!
