Marie Claire summarises the season’s beauty trends.
Scarlet Lips
Past trends are not necessarily an antiquity. Scarlet bow lips are the thing to wear as seen at Karl Lagerfeld and Dolce & Gabbana. They are not the only ones—Moschino and Givenchy too sent girls down the runway in these raving red lips. Accentuate the bow of your lips by exaggerating the bow when lining. Then slowly fill and dust with loose powder. Using a highlighter, touch up the centre top lip or go over the lip line with some concealer to make it pop.
Intense Eyes We see traces of a classic trend in its more extreme version. The girls at Gucci luxed up the classic winged eyeliner while at Giambatista Valli and Isabel Marant we see an intensified version. Use an angled brush and start with a thin line from the inner corner of the eye and move in a slight upward direction at the outer corner of the eye. Increase intensity by repeating the step and thickening the line as you move towards the outer corner. Curl the lashes and use mascara to define the eyes.
Metallic Mystic
Gold sheens can be seen on the eyes at Guy Laroche and at Roberto Cavalli a gold tinge is used to highlight the eyes. Dark metallic shades shine at Derek Lam creating a strong presence. Use softer shades like pinks or violets for your daytime makeup and opt for more pearlescent rather than excessively shiny sheens.
Outlined Brows It is best not to go heavy on the brows for fear of looking a little bit scary but as the runway shows, playing up the brows can work to give the face an impactful twist. Eyebrows are thick with a slight arch at Gaultier, Ferreti and Valentino. Makeup at Erin Wasson got up to mischief but the one-sided brow was a creative do that teased the crowd. Always make sure the brows are neat, fill them in with a pencil and brush upward.
