And it’s VERY powerful.
It was reported last month that Demi Lovato had been hospitalised following a suspected drug overdose.
The 25-year-old Tell Me You Love Me singer was reportedly rushed to a Los Angeles hospital from her home in the Hollywood hills where she was found unconscious by paramedics, after what was originally reported by TMZ as a heroin overdose, but has since been retracted.
‘Demi is awake and with her family, who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support,’ read a statement from Demi’s reps the following day. ‘Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy and not speculation as her health and recovery is the most important thing right now.’
While updates have been coming in steadily from the cancellation of her upcoming concerts to news on Demi’s condition, with it reported that she will be going straight to rehab, she had yet to make a statement herself, until this weekend.
Demi took to her Instagram to speak out about her suspected overdose and thank the people around her for getting her through the past few weeks – and it’s very powerful.
‘I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction,’ she explained. ‘What I’ve learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet. I want to thank God for keeping me alive and well. To my fans, I am forever grateful for all of your love and support throughout this past week and beyond. Your positive thoughts and prayers have helped me navigate through this difficult time.’
She continued: ‘I want to thank my family, my team, and the staff at Cedars-Sinai who have been by my side this entire time. Without them I wouldn’t be here writing this letter to you all. I now need time to heal and focus on my sobriety and road to recovery. The love you have all shown me will never be forgotten and I look forward to the day where I can say I came out on the other side.’
Signing off her statement, Demi concluded by reassuring her fans, ‘I will keep fighting’.
Our thoughts are with Demi and her loved ones.
