Strutting out from the white mist in the midst of boudoir-pink velvet banquettes, mirrors, and miles of smooth pink carpets stamped with the brand’s classic red and green stripes were Gucci’s strongest, kookiest whey-faced, expressionless girls in bold ruffles, lavish tiered evening dresses, signature prints, tweedy jackets and flares, and the extra-big ’70s glitter-framed shades. Gucci’s Spring 2017 collection was of near haute couture level, from the fairy-tale dresses, quirky hats and embroideries, down to the patent 5-inch wedge and black velvet upper, embroidered with a gold snake. Here are five mega-moments we picked out from Michele’s manifestations of rich imagination and craft.
Throughout Gucci’s Spring 2017 collection, Michele used language as part of the design details, at times in full sentences such as ‘Modern Future’ and ‘Hollywood Forever Cemetery’, while at other times merely scripting.
Alessandro Michele took on the role of the Mad Hatter as he styled his collection with an array of big, quirky hats, turbans, bow headbands and even tightly fitted aviator headpieces.
Mega eyewear moment ladies! Every piece was eccentric and oh-so-desirable, we wanted hands on all!
Dress to Impress
Hands down, this tiered evening dress with the giant red embroidered heart, pierced with a jeweled dagger on the front, with the numerals “XXV” above it (Michele’s lucky number) was by far our favorite. All of the evening gowns showcased had touches (or bucket loads) of vintage 20th-century pop-culture references, blended in with relics of the Renaissance.
RUFFLES, FRILLS & FLUFF
From dresses and hats to coats and gowns, ultra-feminine touches were added to the surreal spring 2017 collection.
