Are ruffles a way of life? Do you own almost all the variations of white? Does the sight of soft lace make you swoon? If you answer mostly yes to the points above, then romanticism might be your way of life, and Alessandro Michele may be the man to weave together the wardrobe of your dreams with his nostalgic, uplifting and ultra feminine looks that brings an adult spin to girlishly romantic pieces, from white lace to Victorian-era prints and ruffles.
Romance is alive and well—at least in the wanderlust-inflected collections of Gucci’s Pre-Spring 2017 collection. Not only is Alessandro’s collection an ode to chic pick ‘n’ mix vintage references with enough color, print and texture to overload the senses— everything is better with a romantic story, after all, and Alessandro poured his heart out in this collection. We found ourselves falling hard for the white and magnolia blue Porcelain garden print silk crêpe de chine gown, with a ruffled front bib, a bow and GG pearl buttons, as well as the nylon tulle gown with exaggerated puff sleeves, embroidered with snakes that intertwine across the front and back of the gown. The long, Chantilly lace gown with tonal satin bows and ruffles was hopelessly romantic, and so were the range of fragile dresses, which looked as if they were relics of the Victorian Era. Florals, embroidered words, prints of tigers and snakes! Why pick one pattern when you can have them all in layers upon layers.
But Alessandro’s magical creations don’t just look pretty on the runways; it’s selling too— fast. Here, we shortlist the twelve must-have dresses and accessories for you to don just in time for Valentines day! (or any other day, really.)
