After being crowned the winner of the titular AirAsia Runway Ready Designer Search (AARRDS) 2017, young Vietnamese designer Tran Thi Tu is all smiles at the grand finale as she walks down the runway with Malaysia’s Asia’s Next Top Model finalist Shikin Gomez modelling the winning design.
24-year-old Tran joined the competition with her collection named Dat Viet (the land of Vietnam). Inspired by Ao Dai, she drew inspiration from the modernised Vietnamese traditional dress. The incredibly detailed and stunning embroidery effort she worked into her collection turned many heads at the AARRDS 2017 fashion show.
AARRDS included five more Asean countries in this year’s search: Myanmar, Brunei, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam. Along with Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Philippines, and Malaysia to empower and youth and to provide a platform for young designers around the world. The grand finale saw a total of 20 designers – two representing each Asean country.
Following the path of AARRDS 2016’s winner Anuruq, Tran will have the opportunity to showcase her full collection at AARRDS 2018 during Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week Ready To Wear. Aside from that — a year-long mentorship from the KLFW RTW team, RM25,000 sponsored by Fashion Valet for her capsule collection to be sold on their online portal, a feature in Female Magazine, 150,000 AirAsia BIG points, a return flight for any AirAsia destination, and a six-page spread in AirAsia’s Travel3Sixty in-flight magazine.
A warm congratulations to Tran Thi Tu for bagging the award!
