Tiffin Food Court: A modern communal dining experience

By Daphne Ng
November 29, 2017

What's more Malaysian than a classic hawker food court, where everyone can agree to disagree on dish selections? Tiffin ups the ante by launching a three-weekend long food fiesta for the month of December - all of the flavours from the farthest corners of the world packed into thematic architectural displays to tempt even the staunchest  phone-eats-first individuals.

Held at a former electronics manufacturing space Tamura Warehouse, Tiffin makes use of what they have in the best way possible by setting up thematic areas - from the Red Hall, a Modern Chinoiserie space where the crowd sips drinks in between a game of pool and dripping red neon lights; the Lucky 福 Cat Sushi Counter which features kitschy, pastel decor; to the One Up Arcade, where (you guessed it) arcade games are your night's entertainment. There's plenty of buzz left for the main Food Court area, as experimental art and music collective Paras Bunyi curates tracks with a rotating roster of DJs.

Tiffin Food Court marries haute cuisine with the fuss-free casual nights of traditional hawker food courts. For no more than RM25 a plate, Darren Teoh of Dewakan and Christian Recomio of Sitka Studio will be collaborating and dishing out casual versions of their classic cuisine. Malcolm Goh of Define:food and Pop Up Dining KL will each be hosting pop-ups at Tiffin across the next two weekends.

Practically brimming over with vendors, Tiffin also includes local cult favourites in the food court experience: KGB Killer Gourmet Burgers, Venezuelan cuisine from El Maiz, mainland Chinese bites from  Lucky Cuisine Restaurant 吉祥料理, Spanish tapas and paella from Marta's Kitchen, Singapore's famed Japanese raw bar Tanuki Raw, slurp-worthy ramen courtesy of Sumo Bar Happy, and all manner of coffee, cakes, and sweet treats from Pulp by Papa Palheta and Softsrve. If you're feeling the weekend thirst, CK Kho of Coley and Pahit will be pouring special hand-crafted cocktails from Mezzanine Cocktail Bar - there's your quencher.

Here's the lowdown: from 8 December to 24 December, every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, a food coma awaits you at Tiffin Food Court. You can start as early as 5pm - strategically space out your meals so you get a taste of everything. RSVP for Tiffin Food Court, and check out www.tiffin.my for a complete list of vendors.
