Thanks for the heads up, Ladbrokes
Although it’s only just been announced that Prince William and Kate Middleton are expecting their third child, bookies have already established firm favourites for the new royal baby’s name, whether it’s a boy or a girl. Yeah, they’re psychic like that.
As with their first two children, it’s thought that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will choose traditional names for their third child, who will probably have two middle names like his or her siblings Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
On Ladbrokes, the top name if the baby is a girl is Alice (7/1), the same name as Prince Philip’s mother, Princess Alice of Battenberg. You’d think that the names Elizabeth and Diana, Princess Charlotte’s middle names, were out of the picture, but odds for Elizabeth being the name are still 16/1, while Diana is at 25/1.
Meanwhile if the child is a boy, the favourite is Arthur (10/1), one of Prince Charles’ middle names, while Alexander (12/1), Philip (14/1) and Charles (20/1) are also popular choices. William Hill have also tipped James as a very popular choice at 10/1, which would be a tribute to Kate Middleton’s younger brother.
You can even get 50/1 if you think the royal couple would name their baby after Donald Trump… Not sure we’ll be rushing to put our money on that one.
‘The early money suggests punters would love to see Kate and Wills welcome another little girl into the family, who is called Alice,’ a Ladbrokes spokesperson told The Telegraph. ‘It should come as no surprise to see fairly normal yet regal names top the betting.
‘Royal watchers have been convinced over the last few weeks that an announcement was coming, and we’re paying out with a smile that their hunch was bang on the money.’
One thing’s for sure, the royal baby watch has officially begun. Let the countdown commence…
