When threats that spray paint will be used against Indian women for wearing “inappropriate” saris were issued by extremists during the wind up to Thaipusam a few years ago, Ruby made it her mission to show these extremists that women are not to be trifled with. At the spur of the moment, Ruby decided to create a movement that saw her spray paint body art inspired by fierce goddesses in Hinduism that are known to bring destruction on a number of traditional Indian dancers. These dancers then went out on the streets for a grand parade, to poke fun at the men who had issued the warning.
Ruby found out that her spur of the moment idea empowered a number of women. Since then, Ruby has fashioned a business that saw her further hone her craft as a body artist and create documentaries like This Body is Mine, to help women face their insecurities with their bodies.
