News broke last week that Meghan Markle’s BFF, Priyanka Chopra is engaged to Nick Jonas, and we couldn’t be more excited.
We certainly hope so…
The pair started dating earlier this year, around the time that Priyanka was a guest at the royal wedding, although rumours of their relationship go as far back as the 2017 Met Gala.
Of course, people are already speculating who Priyanka’s bridesmaids will be – and, more specifically, whether Meghan will be on the list.
That said, we can’t help wondering what the rules are for a member of the royal family. Would Meghan be allowed to undertake the role of bridesmaid?
Fortunately for us, royal reporter Omid Scobie has shed some light on the situation.
There is no protocol that dictates whether an adult female member of the British Royal Family can take on the role of a bridesmaid or maid of honur at a non-royal’s wedding,’ he told Cosmopolitan.com.
‘However, it is an unlikely scenario for one simple reason: A female royal would not be expected to walk behind a “commoner”.
‘This is why in the past we saw Pippa Middleton as Duchess Kate’s maid of honour, but when Pippa got married Kate read a prayer.’
It’s worth noting that Prince Harry will fulfil the role of best man for friend Charlie van Straubenzee next month, so it’s not unheard of for royals to be involved in others’ wedding ceremonies.
Either way, the final decision lies with the Duchess of Sussex herself.
