While the best of us were enjoying our holiday, the Influential Brands 2018 CEO Asia Summit took place in Singapore. This year, the theme of the summit focuses on Women in Leadership and Technology. Over 380 prominent C-suite executives from over 100 leading companies from across Asia gathered at the Marriott Hotel Tang Plaza ins Singapore.
The annual summit is held to determine the most influential companies and people of the year. This year saw 41 brands awarded Top Influential Brands. 11 of these brands originated from Malaysia. Our very own Nurul Izzah Anwar was voted the Most Influential Woman of the Year.
Mr Jorge Rodriguez, Managing Director of Influential Brands said,
“Ms Nurul Izzah Anwar is recognised for her enduring contribution to the promotion of democracy and justice. Her advocacy work spanning more than 19 years is prominent and impactful for society and is exemplary for many communities in Asia. Apart from being a skilful public speaker and advocate of a respected cause, her approach narrates an endearing story of humility, hard work, tenacity, and passion, which is very much congruent with many of our business leaders and Top CEOs.”
In her acceptance speech Nurul Izzah said,
“Thank you kindly for such an honour tonight. I can only accept the Influential Woman of the Year award in the hopes that it would lead to further empowerment of women everywhere – especially strong Malaysian women, of various colours, vocation, and creed – in pursuit of reforms, for a better and more progressive Malaysia. The ordinary men and women of Malaysia constantly inspire me to push for reforms, and it is to them this honour truly belongs. Our influence is only as relevant as our ability to empower the voiceless.”
Nurul Izzah is currently the Member of Parliament for Permatang Pauh. She was the at the forefront of reviewing the Printing Presses and Publications Act when Pakatan Harapan was first voted into governance earlier this year. Nurul Izzah has always had an influential presence even during her first foray into politics. Back in 2008, she had shocked the country by winning the Lembah Pantai parliamentary seat. Her opponent had been none other than Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, then the Minister of Women, Family and Community Development.
Congratulations to Nurul Izzah Anwar!
