These women are voicing out in red lipstick, and so can you!
#marieclairevoiceforyourself is a campaign created by Marie Claire Malaysia in conjunction with International Women’s Day that encourages and empowers women to speak up and voice out on issues concerning women’s rights by standing up for themselves and all women wearing bold, red lipstick. The importance of women voicing out for themselves and being heard is more important than ever in Malaysia because our silence has cost us. According to the 2019 Global Gender Gap report, Malaysia ranks 101 out of 149 countries. The report measures gender parity by country and covers several themes like Economic Participation and Opportunity, Educational Attainment, Health and Survival, and Political Empowerment. Malaysia ranks among the lowest in South East Asia – below neighbouring countries Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand. This makes voicing out and using the symbolism of the strong red lip in this campaign – the symbol of being vocal – more important than ever for women in Malaysia. The time is now for us to voice out for empowerment – for ourselves and women who are abused, marginalised and discriminated against.
Marie Claire Malaysia is proud to collaborate with Korean professional makeup brand VDIVOV for the #marieclairevoiceforyourself campaign because of the synergy of its brand values with this campaign and its cause, as the brand believes in women’s right to have choices, dream and turn those dreams into reality. By supporting women empowerment, VDIVOV makes a statement through the boldness of each lipstick colours their range of 53 colours. VDIVOV’s bold lip colours go on strong and last comfortably on lips all day so women can be bold, stand strong and voice out for themselves and their lipstick will stay strong and bold with them.
In order to kick off this campaign with impact, we selected four strong and beautiful women to lend their voices to this campaign and fight for the rights of all women with us – Yaya Zahir, Thanuja Ananthan, Alicia Amin and Elisya Sandha shared messages that were strong, engaging and moving. The symbolism of the strong red lip in celebrating the power we have to speak up and voice out was wonderfully delivered with the brilliant pigmentation and superb colour pay-off of VDIVOV’s beautiful range of bold lip colours.
