Marie Claire’s Web Editor takes on Bali to visit the newly opened Seminyak Village and Luna2 Studiotel.
There’s just something about Bali that makes you keep wanting to go back, time and time again.I’m a frequent traveller to Bali, and on each trip I discover new things about this amazing island. This time around I will be travelling with the Melium Group to discover the newly opened Seminyak Village.
Day 1- Sun, Sea and Breeze
Checked- in at KLIA 2 and hopped on my AirAsia flight to Bali, the flight was smooth and I slept peacefully all the way to Denpasar. Three hours later we landed at Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali, it’s always exciting to watch the airplane land here as the runway and the sea are at such close proximity. Scary, but exciting.
I was greeted and chauffeur driven to Luna2 Studiotel in Seminyak. It took about 45 minutes to arrive at the hotel, and we were offered drinks in the car to hydrate from the long flight.
We arrived at Luna2 studiohotel which has quirky, modern and colourful decor. Each room is represented by a primary colour, so you get to choose from Red, Blue, Yellow or Green.
The Studiootel has 14 rooms to choose from. Designed by Luna2 Founder & Designer Melanie Hall, the minimalist architecture references modernist simplicity.
Devoid of fuss, the design features a somewhat 60’s Panton-esque façade, the subtlety of which offers a glimpse of the nostalgia, futurism and fun-filled interiors beyond.
Five floors house 14 studio rooms, Orbit restaurant, Space champagne & caviar – rooftop bar, Pop! lounge bar, and Lunaplex cinema, with an outdoor 25m Mondrian-ic pool. Serving Lunafood for breakfast and lunch, Orbit transforms at night for an out-of-this-world dining experience.
Pop down the spiral staircase from Orbit into this chic underground designer den of dignified iniquity. The ultimate ‘groovy-baby’ watering hole for hot-spotters seeking a tantalising tipple or two.
Pass through Pop! underground lounge bar to Bali’s only private cinema – Lunaplex. This ultra-plush 16-seat cinema has two showings per day, seven days a week, presenting a cool combo of nostalgic classics and new releases.
The plush roof top bar offered sunset views of Seminyak beach. The canapes and cocktails here are refreshing and unique to Luna2. Ascend into Space champagne & caviar, four floors up on the rooftop for champagne & cocktails to kill for, with caviar & oysters and the ultimate panoramic ocean view.
Day 2- A Shopaholics Cry
Bright and early start, as I headed over to the Seminyak Village for a personal tour with Dato’ Seri Farah Khan and the Melium Group. The Luxurious Seminyak Village is nestled in between the happening shopping street of Seminyak. The architecture of the building creates natural light entering into the building giving you everlasting sunny rays of Bali, but of course indoors in the cooling air condition.
We started our morning at Wahrung, an Indonesian Bistro offering local coffee, an array of desserts and Indonesian delights. Dato Seri Farah Khan gave her welcoming speech as she tells us about her love for Bali, which she has made her second home. We were introduced to the Seminyak Village team, and also got to know other members on the the trip.
A shopping spree begins as we venture into every store on the ground floor. The mall offers many exciting shops which include MCM, M Resort, Farah Khan, Lily Jane, Buddha Wear, Rococo, Rimowa, Bonheur, and many more.
The Market Place Offers customized and original paraphernalia of practical items such as canvas totes, umbrellas, notebooks and badges that will give the individual a piece of the Seminyak Village lifestyle.
The Indonesian Emporium offers travellers to shop for Oleh-oleh, pronounced oh-lay oh-lay, or exactly like the Spanish soccer chant olé olé, is an Indonesian culture of gift-giving from returning travellers after a holiday. Typically it consists of souvenirs or item of significance from the place the travellers return from, oleh-oleh has become a widespread phenomenon in Indonesia, and Indonesian Emporium has come to provide a new oleh-oleh experience at Seminyak Village.
There are 4 eateries to choose from at Seminyak Village. Mrs Lee serves up the famous crispy duck. Other options include Wahrung, Nitrogenie and Tigerpalm.
I indulged in a one hour full body massage at The Spring Spa, located on the Roof top of Seminyak Village. The massage was very soothing making me fall asleep almost instantaneously. One hour was not enough, and the experience was just heavenly. The massage ended with a nice hot cup of the famous Indonesian Ginger tea.
