This part Malaysian, part Austrian chef is making waves around the world thanks to her unique culinary touch. Ladies and gentlemen, we present to you BBC Lifestyle’s latest addition, the beautiful Rachel Khoo
Fans of food and travel will enjoy Rachel Khoo’s Kitchen Notebook: Cosmopolitan Cities which takes viewers on a journey to places including Istanbul, Sweden, Nice and Barcelona. In this series (the second for Rachel, her first was the critically acclaimed The Little Paris Kitchen), she discovers the latest food trends across Europe and beyond, and brings the exquisite recipes, taste and ingredients back home to her kitchen in London, to test on her friends.
Her recipes are simple yet exciting, and a testament to her French training at the Le Cordon Bleu where she obtained a pastry degree. Rachel put her skills to excellent use at the delightful Paris culinary bookstore and tea salon, La Cocotte, where she concocted delicious sweet treats; regularly provided catering for culinary book launches and hosting her own cookery classes on site. Following the success of her edible endeavours at La Cocotte, she now works on culinary projects throughout the world. Her role as an international food creative has spanned six-course dinners and workshops in places as far-flung as London, Paris, Berlin, Milan, Melbourne, Sydney and Buenos Aires.
Besides her TV shows, she also writes books; Barres à céréales, Granola et Muesli faites maison and Pâtes à tartiner published by Marabout. Her third cookbook (her first English book) The Little Paris Kitchen was published by Penguin in March 2012 and Rachel’s fourth book Little French Kitchen was released in Autumn 2013. The Little Paris Kitchen was number one bestseller for three weeks and in the top five for ten weeks in the UK and it has now been translated into Dutch, French, Italian, German, Danish, Russian and Norwegian, Polish and Russian. The book launched in the USA in 2013 to rave reviews and is also due to launch in Brazil, Latvia and Taiwan later this year.
Born in Croydon, South London in 1980 to a Malaysian father and Austrian mother, Rachel graduated with a Bachelors degree in Art & Design from the renowned Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. Thereafter, she worked for a luxury fashion brand, doing PR and e-marketing.
We recently had the privilege to attend a masterclass with Rachel in Kuala Lumpur, and made some of her delicious Baked Cheese Cigars with Green Papaya, Cucumber and Radish Slaw which is surprisingly simple and tasty to make!
