In conjunction with their 2nd anniversary – Dah Makan turns 2! – the lunch delivery brand launched a pre-planned, pre-packed meal for their customers. We took on Dah Makan’s Eat Healthy 5-day challenge at Marie Claire. Ordering was a breeze. With a few simple clicks on our phones, we downloaded the Dah Makan app. With a few swipes, we chose our pre-planned meals for the week. From meat, to fish, to purely vegetarian options, we were swamped with choices.
Once we confirmed our meals, we sat back and waited for the rest of meal-delivered week.
DAY 1: Roasted Chicken Breast with Mushroom Risotto
Requested delivery time: 11.45AM-12.45PM
Time delivered: 12.30PM
First impressions: I was oddly excited to have delivered to me at my workplace! The packaging was a brown box, wrapped up in a red and white sleeve, minimal with an inner wax lining.
Verdict: The risotto wasn’t done the traditional way – instead of using risotto rice, they used barley. The chicken breast was generously huge, grilled and seasoned perfectly. The side of grilled vegetables balanced out the amount of meat I was eating.
DAY 2: Almond Crusted Salmon with Chunky Mashed Potato
Time delivered: 2.30PM*
First impressions: Out of all the 5 planned meals I ordered, I was particularly looking forward to this. Almond crusted salmon?! It sounded like it belonged on a brunch menu.
Verdict: The dish was served with a side of steamed vegetables. I thought that salmon couldn’t possibly fill me up, but the chunky mashed potato did (albeit slightly bland, I did wish it was seasoned better).
*At 12.30PM Dah Makan texted me saying that there was a delay in delivery, and I appreciated the heads up.
DAY 3: Vegetarian Ratatouille with Eggplant
Time delivered: 11.40PM
First impressions: I thought I’d try the vegetarian option, and ratatouille is always a great pick.
Verdict: Ratatouille is always a warm hearty meal, and this was no exception. The side of garlic bread is a bonus, I thought as I dipped it into the warm tomato based sauce.
DAY 4: Thai Green Chicken Curry
Time delivered: 11.50PM
Verdict: Green curry chicken delivered to me at work? Nothing could be better. Thai green curry is always a favourite, and Dah Makan was generous with their serving of chicken pieces. The only gripe I had with the meal was the quinoa which tasted slightly sour.
DAY 5: Peri-Peri Chicken Leg with Tomato Rice
Time delivered: 12.20PM
Verdict: This was quite possibly the tastiest meal out of the 5! I found myself reaching for the sweet chili sauce quite often for a quick drizzle on the tomato rice. Granted it was no quarter-chicken-Nandos served to me on a plate, but for the size and portion I was more than happy.
We’re not a stranger to lunch deliveries and the plethora of options laid at our feet. Dah Makan is one of the many lunch deliveries in KL, but they do offer something more – healthy options without the compromise of bland cold meals.
