Honey BBQ chicken with fried brown rice and homemade chilli dip
The first thing that comes to mind after my first spoonful is Chicken rice. The chicken is tender, juicy and well seasoned with oriental spices. The chicken is tasty even on its own. The fried rice is really delicious, and could be a meal on its own. Well seasoned with garlic and eggs, its’ Dah Makan’s version of your famous Chinese fried rice. I didn’t even realise I was eating brown rice, the taste if not exactly the same, is very similar to white rice. I didn’t mind the substitute. The meal was served with homemade sweet, sour, spicy chilli sauce which adds extra kick with every spoonful, the ginger paste tastes fresh, well seasoned and compliments the dish in perfect harmony. The sides of broccoli and carrot were steamed perfectly as the veggies still had a nice crunch. The portion is generous and very filling. A great Asian dish for those looking to eat healthy.
Herb crusted perch with truffle mash and market vegetables
This makes for the perfect fresh and light lunch. The fish its flaky and coated in a breaded herb crust. There are chilli flakes in the crust so its a little spicy which adds flavour to the dish. The fish is layered on a bed of truffle mash potatoes, the mash is fluffy, creamy and everything you would want in comfort food. The truffle is fragrant and makes this dish very addictive. Try not to gobble everything down too fast. The meal comes with a side of steamed broccoli, carrots and cauliflower. Super satisfying and delicious.
Thai green curry chicken with eggplant, baby corn and brown rice
“Creamy, fiery, and oh-so-good”, just like they promised, this really hit the spot. We love how rich and flavoursome the gravy is, which is why we have our doubts if it’s really only 650kcal. It can’t possibly be! There are lots of vegetables to balance your meal: crunchy baby corn, juicy eggplant and red capsicum in the curry, with a side of steamed carrots and string beans. If you’re able to (and we say this because we weren’t able to), you can halve the rice for a less heavy meal. But trust us, it will be quite the challenge!
Grilled Chicken Thigh “Masak Merah Style” with brown rice and plentiful beans, carrots and capsicums.
Not only does this classic Malay style chicken dish look visually appealing it’s super delicious too. Being a big fan of Ayam Masak Merah, I manage to satisfy my cravings with this healthy meal. The gravy has the right amount of spice and wee bit of sweetness and of course sourness too, a perfect mix I believe. Most of the time when we eat Masak Merah out, it tends to be oily but nope not this. Extremely happy about this, and believe it or not I finished up all my veggies. Feast away I did guiltlessly, with its 650 kcal count.
Vegetarian creamy pasta bake with broccoli and mushroom
Never say no to pasta bake, even when it’s vegetarian! A freshly baked, warm, creamy pasta makes a wholesome meal for a rainy day. The seasonal market vegetables balances the rich heavy cream, making the whole dish lighter. Considering the amount of creaminess, parmesan, and stringy mozzarella cheese, I was surprised this only contained 420 kcal.
