Fans of the late Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla can now learn more about the singer and her life as Netflix is set on telling her story.
The media service provider informed the public that Selena: The Series is a story of the singer’s coming of age and how her journey to stardom was paved with heart-wrenching and life-changing choices made by her family and her as she navigated success, family and music.
The series will have the Quintanilla’s family assisting as executive producers. Elder sister Suzette Quintanilla had this to say in a statement “Selena will always have a lasting place in music history and we feel great responsibility to do justice to her memory.” “With this series, viewers will finally get the full history of Selena, our family and the impact she has had on all of our lives.”
The queen of Tejano initially came on to the scene in a band named Selena y Los Dinos with her family and rose to fame as a solo artist in the late ‘80s and ‘90s and had been ranked among the most influential Latin artist of all time. She successfully broke through mainstream music back then with her Tejano music. During those days this music genre was highly dominated by the males.
Many are still shock to date as how anyone would hurt the talented Selena especially when the person who shot her was a colleague and friend of her fan club. Yolanda Saldivar shot and killed Selena aged 23 in 1995.
Prior to her death, Selena won the Grammy Awards in 1994 for Best Mexican/American album and her albums, both the ones released during her lifetime and those released after her death have been sold up to 65 million copies worldwide.
Despite her tragic death, Selena continues to live on in many hearts and is not forgotten. In fact, she has continued to be awarded posthumous awards, the likes of a U.S. postage stamp, a wax figure at Madame Tussaud’s in Hollywood and the renowned star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Selena’s story was previously told by singer Jennifer Lopez in a 1997 biopic on the big screen.
Coming back to the Netflix series, there is still no date when will it air or how many episodes there will be or even who will be playing the coveted role of Selena Quintanilla.
However, US Magazine has come up with a list of six actresses who can potentially play the role of Selena.
