Happy New Year! 2018 is here and we’re excited to get back to staying fit and healthy. After all the cakes, turkey and overeating over the festive season it’s time for Team MC to start eating clean. We’re taking baby steps by incorporating healthy food into our lunch.
EPIC The Real Food Delivery
Stay tuned for the whole month of January as Team Marie Claire will be feasting and trying out healthy food deliveries and restaurants. First up is Epic Fit Meal Co, I didn’t want to start too drastic with eating a green salad for lunch so after viewing Epic Fit Meal Co’s menu (which includes a calorie counter) I decided that it’s a great way to start eating healthy. Their menu consist of burgers, grilled chicken, pizzas, burritos, pasta and loads of side dishes to choose from ( apple slaw, cauliflower rice, sweet potato mash to name a few).
Delivery Day 1
Fire Chicken Schnitzel (323 kcal) with Scramble Ma’ Eggs (195kcal)
I really enjoyed the chicken schnitzel, the chicken was tender and juicy. The breaded crust was full of flavour and spicy, ideal for the Asian palate. If you like spicy food, this is a great choice. The scrambled eggs was fluffy and creamy, accompanied by shredded cabbage for a crunchy bite. I paired the dish with Country Gravy Sauce ( creamy brown sauce) and Barbie-Q Sauce ( sweet , sour and spicy). You can taste that all their sauces are homemade its fresh, wholesome and packs a lot of flavour.
Epic Cauli-rice (104 kcal)
This is my current favourtie side dish. It’s my first time trying Cauliflower rice, and Epic’s version is full of flavour and spices. It taste much like cous cous with moroccan spices, its so good even on its own. It filling and the texture is similar to rice, definately the perfect substitue for those trying to cut down on carbs.
Chicky Chummy Burger (700 kcal)
The first thing i noticed about this burger is the size. The portion is generous and served with Epic’s special sauce. The burger is juicy, tender and tasty. Not like your usual healthy burgers which tend to be a bit bland. The burger is mildly spicy, and made for such a fulfilling lunch.
Delivery Day 2
Good Ol’ Breakkie (698 kcal)
This big burrito is a well balanced and complete meal. It’s super tasty at first bite. Fluffy scrambled eggs, salsa, tomato rice cooked with onions, and green peppers, sandwiched between chunky honey mustard chicken all wrapped in a soft tortilla. It was instantly comforting and feels like a warm hug. I really enjoyed every bite.
Oz’ Beef Delight Pizza( 620kcal)
The pizza is worth the calories. The crust is really thin, so you get a generous portion of the toppings with every bite. The pizza was garnished with capsicum, mushroom, pulled beef and topped with gooey mozzarella cheese. The portion is big, so you can share, this pizza easily feeds 2 people.
Mashed Sweet Potatoes (133 kcal)
It tastes healthy. The sweet potatoes are sweet and fluffy. Not your usual mash that contains cream or milk. But the flavour of the sweet potatoes alone was so good that it doesn’t need much seasoning at all. Very comforting as a side dish or on its own. I had it as a teatime snack.
Apple Slaw (78 kcal)
Lower on the calorie scale, the apple slaw is a great side dish for those trying to stay healthy. It’s light and the thinly sliced apples adds a refreshing surprise to the slaw. The dressing is light and creamy, you almost don’t notice that mayonnaise has been substituted with yogurt.
“I must say that Epic The Real Food Company takes pride in preparing their food, every meal I’ve had was really delicious. Healthy food is usually stereotyped as being bland and boring. But Epic knows what they are doing in terms of designing a menu that is full of flavour and satisfying, even if you choose items from the menu which have the least calories I can safely say that you’ll be impressed by the taste and wholesomeness of their food. There’s a variety of different meals on the menu, so you’ll never get bored.” – Lira Jamaluddin, Senior Web & Special Projects Editor.
