Whether we are attracted to bright reds or subtle blue hues, there is a lot our colour preferences can say about us, giving us a deeper understanding into our personalities and environment. In ode to our Fifty Shades issue, we decided to delve further into colour symbolism and explore what these shades say about us and what they can do for you!
WHITE IS THE COLOUR OF SIMPLICITY AND PURITY. IT IS ALMOST THE BASE FORM OF ANY CANVAS AND GIVES A FEELING OF STARTING AFRESH AND GOING BACK TO THE BASICS.
If this is your favourite colour… White indicates a need for simplicity and self-reliance. Most people think of white as a blank canvas and could be the reason you either wear white or want white around you when you are thinking of starting things afresh or desiring a simpler life. For example, if you’ve just moved into a new house or new surroundings, painting everything white could mean that you want a fresh start and also that you are putting yourself in control of things. White is also associated with perfection and idealism.
What this colour could do for you… As white indicates clarity, lightness and goodness, there is a lot that this colour can do for you. It is an appropriate colour to wear if you want to channel positive energy and if you want to give off the air of purity, kindness and honesty. Remember, angels and doctors are associated with white so it can be used to symbolise safety and holiness too.
YELLOW,THE COLOUR OF HAPPINESS AND SUNSHINE! ANOTHER POSITIVE COLOUR GIVES US THE FEELING OF ENERGY, FUN, HUMOUR AND ACTIVITY.
If this is your favourite colour… You’re keen on getting things going and if you love yellow, you tend to have a bright character with a great sense of humour and there are no blurred lines for you when it comes to making decisions. It indicates precision and a quick and shrewd mind.
What this colour can do for you… Walk into most restaurants and you’ll see the colour yellow. Why? Studies have shown that yellow makes us hungry! It is the colour most associated with food and we can understand why…most of our favourite foods are yellow; think, cheese, potatoes, corn and bananas. Yellow invokes energy and cheerfulness so use it if you want to indicate these feelings but be warned, just like the sun, too much yellow can have a disturbing effect.
OFTEN CONSIDERED THE MOST POTENT OF COLOURS, RED IS THE COLOUR OF ANGER, VITALITY, VIBRANCY AND STRENGTH. IT IS A FESTIVE COLOUR AND GIVES OFF CONNOTATIONS OF GREAT ENERGY AND PASSION.
If this is your favourite colour… You’re certainly one that has much zest for life! Most people who love red are extroverts and are often daring, full of fun, impulsive and also ambitious. Beware though, red could also indicate a penchant for danger, restlessness and a lack of regard for anyone else in pursuit of your goals and ambition.
What this colour could do for you… The preferred colour for the Chinese, red is often associated with prosperity and strength. It is also the colour of love so use this colour if you want to harness feelings of warmth, devotion and intensity. It’s a colour that will get people to sit up and pay attention, whether it is to your physical self if you’re wearing the colour (it will arouse feelings of desire) or simply if you want someone to take notice of something (it is used in many signages to indicate danger.
