In support of Breast Cancer Awareness month, we sat down with medical oncologist Dr Azura Rozila Ahmad of Beacon International Specialist Center as she shares her point of view and dispels common misconceptions about breast cancer and chemotherapy.

“Chemotherapy side effects portrayed in TV shows or drama are not 100 percent accurate. Different individuals have different ways of coping with chemotherapy. You have people who can cycle 60 kilometers during the course of chemo treatment – and she had three chemo drugs in her system,” Dr Azura says. For those who have a harder time coping, there are always other ways to help. “There are anti-sickness drugs that help, many other ways to reduce or minimise side effects.”
