THE POKE CRAZE
Bearing a name drastically similar to the Nintendo game that took the globe by storm last year, the poke (poh-kay) bowl is quickly making its way into the list of top food fads in KL. Traditionally served as an appetiser in Hawaii, a poke dish consists of raw fish (commonly salmon or yellowfin tuna) marinated in soy sauce, accompanied with various toppings (avocado, furikake, eggs, vegetables), drizzled with a special sauce, and serve on a bed of rice. Fancy a shot at customising your own? Try one of these poke-centric restaurants below.
Founded by radio DJ and Youtuber Dennis Yin, Paperfish prides itself on the fusion of Hawaiian and Malaysian flavours. Not forgetting the dish’s Japanese influence, the name ‘paperfish’ was picked to represent clean, simple, and refined produce in a bowl. Take your pick from their three must-have sauces – creamy wasabi, garlic factor, and fiery sauce.
