Take charge of 2018! We speak to ash be nimble founder Hui Mathews about her hiking spots, motivational support, and living in active wear.
How do you start your day?
Rolling around in bed with my baby Asha! Once a week I try to start it with a trail run, which involves dragging myself out of bed after snoozing a couple of times, and making someone run with me so I don’t back out of it myself.
What challenges you?
Juggling two full time roles: being a mother to my one and a half year old baby (without full time help) and building my brand and business ash be nimble, while trying to find time to train for my next trail race, attempt to cook twice a week for my husband and have some sort of a social life!
Favourite spots for hiking?
Bukit Kiara – There are 20-30km worth of trails stretching between Kiara, TTDI, Mont Kiara, Hartamas, Bukit Lanjan and Pencala! There are small streams, dense jungle areas, steep climbs, swift descents, rocky and sandy bits. The best part is that its 5 minutes from home.
If I have time to travel, I love Cameron Highlands – I’ve taken the family + baby there a few times now, and even went during pregnancy. Love the cold, crisp air and the dense, mossy trails. Usually we start at Robinson’s Falls.
How do you stay motivated?
I always ask people to work out with me – I hate running alone! You know that accountability of not letting someone else go alone as soon as you’ve invited them or said yes to their invite to run together! Also I want my baby girl to love the outdoors and get used to being active! When I’m in a race I think of the finishing line, I think of not giving up because that would be difficult to explain to Asha one day.
What’s a workout attire you can’t live without?
ash be nimble sports bras – especially the ones with clasps at the back make it easy to put on and take off.
