The Michelin star title is an honour given to restaurants around the globe for their fine dining and quality service. This year a Malaysian won the prestigious title, she is a Malaysian born chef who runs a restaurant in the city of love, Paris.
Kwen Liew is the first Malaysian women to be awarded the Michelin Star title at the Michelin Guide France 2018 for her restaurant called Pertinence in Paris. Kwen and her Japanese husband Ryunosuke Naito have been running the restaurant since March 2017 and it’s certainly an unexpected achievement to receive the title in such a short period of time.
Pertinence in Paris is a favourite destination for foodies who crave mouth watering French delights with a Japanese twist. The Asian and Western combination is sure something we all want to try.
Although cooking has always been stereotyped as a women’s duty , Kwen believes that it’s difficult for women to survive and make her stand in this male dominating culinary world.
Incuding Kwen’s restaurant, 57 new restaurants were added to the 2018 Michelin Guide France, making up a total of 621 Michelin-starred restaurants in the country.
Thank you Kwen Liew, you made us proud.
