Sometimes all you need to boost your career, is someone to inspire you. Marie Claire worked with four industry experts – a celebrity chef, a fashion designer, a fitness Youtuber, and a marketing director – and paired them up with four of our readers who aspire to gain an insight into their world. After a week of the mentorship programme, we sat down for a chat with body fitness and health duos, Joanna Soh and Bella Ridhuwan about their experience and achievements.

Bella Ridhuwan, Dietician
What were the challenges you faced before entering this mentorship?
I’m not someone with a strong drive, unlike Joanna, when she wants something she goes for it. I’m the kind of person who holds back.
What did you hope to gain from this mentorship?
I’ve been following Joanna since 2015. I think we have the same interest, which is to help people and engage with them. I have the knowledge, but I don’t know how to channel it. That is one of the qualities I hope to learn from her. She gives me a lot of support and motivational words.
One of the tasks Joanna put you up to was to come up with a fitness routine.
Yes. She gave me two different tasks. She asked me to come up with a meal plan and fitness plan for Ramadhan. We know that fasting for more than 12 hours is a must during Ramadhan, so the challenge is to keep up with the workouts without burdening people who have been fasting.
You’re a dietician by profession. What do you think about high metabolism and carefree eating habits?
Even if you have high metabolism, you can’t eat whatever you want. You have to eat calorie dense healthy food. If you want to gain weight, you don’t want to gain fat, you want to gain muscle mass. It definitely not healthy to be eating whatever you want, it will affect you up to a cellular level.
What are your plans after this mentorship?
I’m currently working with one of the private clinics, but I’d like to look further by incorporating fitness consultants as well. It’s always fitness, diet, and lifestyle – they all go hand in hand and you cannot exclude anything for a healthy way of living. I would like to be a consultant so I can always share knowledge, info, and keep up to date with the newest fitness trends.
What do you think about the mentorship program?
I think it’s a very good opportunity. If it’s possible, you guys should do it once every year! We get to learn from industry experts, it is valuable knowledge and experience that I got from this programme.
