“I Found My Wild Side”
Azza Arif, Fashion Editor
I can never walk out of the house feeling chic in leopard print. Even though it is this season’s most debated print—and one that keeps recurring for several seasons, I must add—it is still a tricky trend to pull off, due to the risqué element and quite obvious 80s reference. Even though season after season we see amazing line-ups of leopard prints on everything, from coats and dresses to bags and shoes, I still never did have that urge to go out and grab one.
All that changed when I received as gift a wildly loud leopard blouse in electric shades of green, blue and pink, and touches of red from the Kenzo x H&M collection. I kept it away until the very day when I was asked to confront a fear and try out something new. I decided to pull out the loud eccentric blouse that I had kept buried away in my wardrobe, and put it on with great hesitation. I think it took me quite a while to shake off that fear of looking like one of the crazy characters from an 80s music video, before heading straight to the office.
Dressing in leopard print had put me on the edge. Although I knew it didn’t look bad, I just couldn’t shake off that uncomfortable feeling of walking out in leopard print. After that experience, I decided that I would prefer to be at fashion shows, watching wild prints mark their territory on the runways rather than donning them.
