If you are a health conscious foodie and a frequent gym-goer (especially in Bangsar), Fittie Sense might just be your cup of tea. While dining at Fittie Sense, you can forget about restrictive pseudo-diets or joyless clean eating fads as they offer sumptuous tasting wholesome meals that will satisfy your taste buds.
Barely two weeks since its opening, the casual-dining café is already attracting an impressive crowd with its extensive all-day menu of healthy yet delicious food, ranging from breakfast and brunch, small plates, soups, salads, noodles, pastas, seafood, chicken, grass-fed beef and lamb, signature desserts and a variety of beverages.
The large menu aside, what makes Fittie Sense stand out from the existing healthy cafés out there is how each of their dishes are carefully labelled (gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free, paleo-friendly, keto-friendly, vegetarian, vegan) to ensure that customers are able to identify a meal that matches their dietary requirements. Clearly, the team has put a lot of thought into creating their menus.
Patrons can also be assured of quality food as not only are the ingredients locally sourced, the food is prepared safely and responsibly. Basically, no deep-frying, no highly processed, hydrogenated oils, and no refined sugars are stored or used in the kitchen.
Located above Ojo Coffee, the entire place is bright making it perfect for food photography while the green interior along with its vertical herb garden adds to the coziness of the place. The fact that it is also situated close to Bangsar’s numerous surrounding gyms and training studios makes it the ideal revving up or cooling-off zone for fitness enthusiasts.
The Fittie Sense Gut Bar should give you another reason to visit the café as it ferments a variety of living beverages in-house which are all rich in probiotics. Specialising in Kefir – drinks cultured from natural micro-organisms of yeast and bacteria, their drinks are packed with bacterial goodness that promotes healthy skin, stimulates metabolism and boosts immunity.
Therefore, it was only right that I started off with two of their signature Kefir Sodas – Pitaya + Grapefruit and Ginger,Tumeric + Lime (RM12). At first sip, my taste buds were immediately awakened by its tangy fizziness followed by a distinct hint of bitterness. Never fond of ginger to begin with, I favoured the Pitaya + Grapefruit soda more as the sweet combination of both fruits managed to balance out the bitterness of the drink.
Also straight from the Gut Bar was their Fittie Digestion Smoothie (RM14). A blended mixture of papaya, kaffir lime, sumac and milk kefir, the drink was thick and smooth with a strong tangy citrus taste from the sumac that packed quite a punch while promising nutritious goodness for the intestine.
For the appetiser, I was servedQuinoa, Buckwheat and Shiitake Salad with Carrot, Coriander and Black Rice (RM25). A peculiar dish, every bite gave off a subtle nutty flavour with crisp texture. The odd combination of ingredients surprisingly worked, making it an unusual yet a perfect dish for those looking to try something different (and healthier) from the usual green salad.
Next up was the Green and Yellow Zucchini ‘Zoodles’ with Mushrooms, Tomato, Chilli, Garlic, Capers and Lemon (RM17). Putting an interesting spin to the classic bolognese spaghetti, the zoodles provided a delightful crunch and was perfectly complemented by the savoury tomato sauce, making it an instant favourite!
Another favoruite was the Harissa Chicken Kebabs with Lebanese Slaw and Sumac Salsa (RM24). I quite like the mildly spicy salsa sauce drizzled atop the succulent grilled chicken, taking the kebab to whole new level. Top it off with a bed of colourful Lebanese slaw and you have yourself a vibrant dish that is both visually pleasing and oh so tasty.
The Beef Kofte with Baba Ganoush, Marinated Beetroot and Cauliflower Tabbouleh (RM32) was a sight to behold. While the minced beef was soft and well-seasoned, it was a little too dry for my liking. The star of the dish, however, was the baba ganoush. It’s incredibly creamy texture was bursting with flavours which left me coming for more with every forkful.
