“Wake up and smell the toast.”
The exact quote that greeted me at the colourful entrance of The Toast Co braced myself for what was to come. Sure enough, I was greeted by the heavenly smell of fresh toast wafting through the air the moment I set foot into the bustling café.
Nestled next to the ever busy Petaling Street, the spacious interior gives off a lovely charming vintage vibe which will sit well with both young and old (bread lovers, especially). The artistically scrawled welcoming message across the wall also allows for a cozy and inviting dining experience.
The mural-filled wall at the back of the café is also the ideal spot for Instagram-ers looking to take the perfect portrait photo.
While other food items (pasta and chicken chop) are available, it would be a crime to give a miss on their specialty item, which is the open faced toast obviously! With a total of 7 savoury and 2 sweet choices, brunch decisions have never been harder.
Thankfully, owner and founder Kwong Jia Shen was present to recommend three of the café’s crowd favourite savoury toasts.
Served with a side of garden salad and crispy wedges, each toast is made fresh in the kitchen upon ordering to achieve the perfect taste and the right crispiness. Its appealing presentation as the toasts were set before me also helped work up a good appetite.
Pan Seared Chicken with Basil Pesto (RM18)
The healthier alternative among the other toasts, the succulent pan seared chicken breast goes really well with their fresh homemade basil pesto. Top it off with a dash of parmesan cheese and sun dried tomatoes, and you have yourself the perfect “eat clean” toast.
Smoked Salmon with Dill Cream Cheese (RM22)
Layers of mildly smoked salmon on a toast with a generous spread of homemade dill cream cheese – a paring that no one can find fault with. A fan of runny egg yolk, watching the yellow yolk ooze out as I worked my knife into the toast was visually pleasing and hunger inducing.
Creamy Mushroom (RM15)
A toast for the vegetarians and also a personal favourite– garlic rubbed bread covered with a generous mix of sautéed mushrooms infused with light cream sauce was incredibly fragrant and oh so tasty. Its creamy texture hit all the right notes, making every a bite truly a blissful one.
Pulled Beef (RM24)
Also, beef lovers will be delighted to know that their pulled beef toast is a best-seller and it’s easy to see why. Slow cooked beef brisket and caramalised onion covered in a blanket of rich cheddar and mozzarella cheese with slices of beef bacon, it was a sight to behold. The combination of everything was simply irresistible, making this cheesy affair a must-have.
Apple Kiwi (RM13)
What better way to finish off a delicious meal than their house special drink? A blended mixture of apple, kiwi, banana and milk, this thirst quencher is surprisingly refreshing. I enjoyed every sip of it down to the very last drop. Highly recommended!
