If you’re looking for a cheerful and relaxed neighbourhood restaurant to unwind after work with killer cocktails and wholesome well-portioned food, then The Gastro Project (TGP) just might answer all your needs.
The kitchen is headed by Chef Othman who has been at TGP since January 2013 and the restaurant features a mezzanine floor that features probably the best kept secret in PJ – a private cinema! Movie buffs will revel in the fact that movie posters featuring their favourite Hollywood celebs and a film noir-esque chequered floor add to the overall effect of this being a little slice of Hollywood in their very own neighbourhood!
One of TGP’s best sellers is the Japanese Salad which includes a zesty mix of avocado, pomegranate, toasted pine nuts on a bed of mixed salad leaves which is drizzled with a Japanese inspired sesame dressing. If you’re feeling more peckish, you can add tempura prawns to the salad. This is a fresh, tasty salad and the dressing gives it a nice twist.
For mains, you are given a huge variety at TGP and you can pick from pizza and pastas to meat and fish dishes. We were served The Indian pizza which is fusion cuisine at its best as it is a spicy chicken perratal with cucumber raita served on a crunchy pizza base!
Desserts at TGP can only be summed up as – to die for. The Classic which is a sticky toffee pudding served with caramel sauce and vanilla ice-cream will perform a disappearing act in a matter of seconds as it is such a perfect dessert, you won’t be able to stop after your first spoonful. The pudding is just sweet enough to counter the ice-cream and a better way to round off the meal we really couldn’t ask for.
