5. Legoland Discovery Center Osaka
When we heard Legoland Discovery Center Osaka was in the programme, we immediately discounted it as being ‘one for the kids’. Well, we pretty much had to eat our words the moment we were let loose in the center and here’s why… You’ll immediately understand the complexity of the design and the thought-provoking detailing behind each piece of architecture once you’ve viewed the wonderful creations in Lego Miniland. With over a million Lego pieces used to create the building attractions and landscapes and clever use of lighting and sound to evoke lifelike experiences, e.g. sunrise and morning sounds as well as sounds of the night, the recreations of well-known Osaka landmarks, e.g. Osaka Castle and Abeno Harukas as well as vignettes of traditional Japanese life e.g. the excitement of a crowd in a sumo wrestling ring. There were, of course, the rides, the 4-D cinema, and the Lego Factory Tour but to me, Lego Miniland was the main attraction. Do note that the Osaka Legoland is fairly small in size but if you love Lego and seeing how life and its attractions can be built with Lego, you won’t regret visiting this little attraction.
Getting there: Legoland Discovery Centre is located in the Tempozan Market Place and is very near Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan.
