You wouldn’t want to get into a fight with MMA fighter Ann “Athena” Osman. Ann talks to MC about how she got started in the sport and who she’d love to get into a fight with.
How did you get started in MMA?
I’ve always been an outdoor person and I’m a bit of an adrenaline junkie. When I began going to the gym about three years ago, I’d see AJ ‘Pyro’ Lias Mansor training and teaching Muay Thai and MMA. Initially, I joined for fitness and fun, but before I knew it I was training with the Borneo Tribal Squad and competing in some amateur MMA and Muay Thai competitions. Now I am signed with ONE Fighting Championship and made my Pro MMA debut October last year.
What’s on your mind at the moment?
At the moment, my mind is pretty much occupied with business strategies and marketing plans! I am currently starting up a business and has just got it registered. It’s an outdoor adventure and Travel Company here in Sabah and it’s been both hectic but exciting for me. Besides work, I also think about wanting to get back fighting in ONE FC’s cage soon!
What keeps you going?
Passion. Having the passion in what I do and knowing that I train hard and work hard to improve and be a better person.
What makes you happy?
A good workout, pretty dresses, kittens, good laugh with my friends and family, comedies and a good massage.
Who would you most like to get into a fight with?
Get into a fight? As in street fight or competition? I would try to avoid any bar or street fights as much as possible..Profesionally though, I have just made my Pro MMA debut and with a fresh Pro record, I hope to advance further and possibly fight to win a title belt (that would be awesome!)
Who would you rather not get into a fight with?
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
Best advice would also be my mantra whenever I am training, ‘control the mind and you control your body’. This really gets me going especially when things get tough or when I am prepping for a fight.
What’s next for you?
I have a lot of plans in the pipeline however the main focus would be to advance further in both of my career; in MMA and in business. I have never stopped training hard with the team, Borneo Tribal Squad back home here in Sabah. I am just more excited to get back fighting in ONE FC’s cage again soon. It’s just great to work hard and have fun doing it as I also hope to inspire other women to do the same!
