Shane Filan stole the hearts of millions across the globe almost a decade ago with infamous boy band Westlife. Fast forward to 2018 and he's set to do the same with his collection of timeless love songs in his solo career - from You and Me, Right Here, to his latest - Love Always.
In this exclusive interview, Marie Claire chats with the Irish singer-songwriter about the power of social media and getting Jennifer Lawrence to play the lead in Love Always.
Whenever someone mentions Westlife, it brings back nostalgia. Do you tend to replicate that sense of nostalgia in your solo career? Or is it a different formula altogether?
I think you definitely have to go for a whole new formula. I’m not Westlife. I can’t recreate what that was – that was absolute hysteria, it was a different time, we had so much success, so quickly. Of course as a singer I want to be as successful as I can. But coming out of one of the biggest bands to be one of the biggest artists in the world – it’s not very easy to do. For me, I’m very happy where I’m at in my career – being able to sing, play at concerts, have my own album. If I’m still singing in 20 years, that’s good for me.
