Tinder has asked users to stop posing with tigers in their profile picture. Besides those touristy tiger pictures..pictures of mirror selfies and the works are becoming a drag to look at.
The dating app Tinder has been asked to stop its users from using selfies with tigers on their profiles after animal charities argued that it is cruel. “It’s time for the tiger selfies to go”, the company wrote in a blogpost. “These photos take advantage of beautiful creatures that have been torn apart from their natural environment. We are looking to you to make a change.”
The company has promised to make it “worth your while” by donating $10,000 to Project Cat for International Tiger day. The ban is laudable indeed, evidently these tiger selfies were taken with tigers who endure abusive methods which make them submissive enough to entertain tourist.
However this ban also serves as a public service; an indirect message to those who use these tiger pictures in an attempt to get laid. It is shorthand for swipe left.
With that being said, could Tinder consider further legislation? The tiger selfie is just merely one of the many pictures privately blacklisted by anyone with sense.
Here are some of the pictures we secretly dislike:
A picture of you and the ex – Yes you guys may have looked good together back then, posing happily beside the Eiffel tower or on a cruise. But that was all in the past and maybe that’s one of the best photos you have of yourself but it has to go. You’re totally over them now yes? So don’t go around posing pictures with your ex because not everyone has good intentions and may see pictures like this and feed on your emotional fragility.
Posing in a group – Who’s who?Only from the third or fourth picture one would be able to tell that you’re the less attractive one in the group in the first picture. Sadly against your hopes, that group picture doesn’t make you look better when reflected in their light. In short, providing comparative sources on your own profile is self defeating.
Your wedding photo – Now that’s a big no-no. Sure that wise old quote “tis better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all”, but it is ill-advised to use that on a site where you trying to get into a new relationship. Yes you both look good, the gown/suit looks smashing and the venue was to die for but just opt for another photo.
Photo with a baby – Is that your niece? Could it be your daughter? Why is there a baby here? Using a baby that’s either yours or not to score a date is so unattractive.
The tourist picture – You’re holding the Leaning Tower of Pisa. You, standing on the top of some mountain or at one of the seven wonders of the world. Are these pictures really necessary, they only seem as if you’re posing for a secondary school French textbook.
The mirror selfie – It’s either a half-dressed mirror selfie in the bathroom or in the changing room with something you have on that chances are you’re not going to be buying. That loo picture is rather distracting, how does one pay attention to your abs with flecks of toothpaste stained on your mirror.
