A spectacle at Gucci started even before the actual show, as emails and text messages flooded through announcing it was running an hour late. But once things settled down and strip lights flickered, the entire room went silent; he had our attention, no matter how late the show was. And then came the migraine-inducing strobe of lights along with strong thumping of music.
This season, Alessandro Michele’s nerd clique was still here but they have moved along; His girls are bolder, more commanding and a tad bit tougher with an attitude. Michele’s trademark nostalgic romantic touches were present in every look, many of which styled statement piece on top of statement piece immaculately which simply captivated me personally; the straight silk dresses with 7/8 sleeves cuffed in mink, knitted red capes, coiled serpent embroideries, double-breasted brocade coats, and baseball jackets with the house webbing all atop precariously high wedges or zebra striped platforms with hairy ‘tails’.
We were especially blown away by Michele’s kaleidoscopic ruffled gowns and of course, the finale dress; a stunning spearmint-shade gown with puffy balloon sleeves, sequinned black panther motif and ’25’ appliquéd on the back, in a sporty style.
