Novexpert came into being when the brand’s founder, Cyrille Telinge and a group of doctors and researchers, all of them specialists in ageing skin, got together to create a French beauty brand with products that are biodegradable, preservative-, chemical- and fragrance-free. Novexpert’s products contain no allergens as it has banned the 26 substances that need to be declared on the label by European regulations, making it suitable for sensitive skins as well as safe for pregnant women. It has also obtained ECOCERT certification which verifies that the brand is in compliance with the specifications of its claims.
Preservatives in beauty products are a double-edged sword. In a retail environment where products are on shelves for a certain period of time, preservatives are a necessity to prevent microbes that are bad for you from growing in the product and affecting your skin or health. However, ever since a UK study in 2004 reported that traces of parabens – a chemical used widely as a preservative in beauty products – was found in women with breast tumour, there has been a general public aversion to consuming and applying products with parabens in them. Note: the UK study on parabens did not make a comparison with normal breast tissue, neither did it prove that parabens cause cancer. It’s misleading to assume all preservatives are harmful, especially when used in doses regulated by recognised agencies. If the idea of preservatives in your beauty products still makes you uneasy, you’ll be pleased to know that Novexpert contains a unique twice-patented gel-like active ingredient, similar to glycerin, that removes the need for preservatives. This substance prevents bacteria from growing in the product as there is no liquid, keeping the products fresh. In fact, each item has a shelf life of three years – similar to beauty products using preservatives.
