Last night in New York, officially, Chanel unveiled the latest film celebrating Chanel No. 5. Gisele Bündchen joins the ranks of Catherine Deneuve, Nicole Kidman, Linda Evangelista, Carole Bouquet, and (how could we ever forget) – Brad Pitt, as the face of the iconoclastic parfum. Directed by Baz Luhrmann, who made a smashing No. 5 film with Nicole Kidman in 2004, the three minute-plus mini movie begins with Gisele atop a Chanel surfboard, decked out in a wetsuit stamped with the iconic 5 at the back, set to the song The One That I Want, given new life by musician Lo Fang. At first, memories of John Travolta shivering and belting out “it’s electrifyin’!” in Grease pop to mind, but soon this haunting, soul-shaking reimagined version of the song really takes over. And gets stuck in your head for days after watching the film! In between all that, what captivates is images of Gisele standing strong commanding the surf, spraying No. 5 with her on-screen daughter grasping in the air for the scent, and that final smooch with Game of Thrones‘ Daario Naharis. It’s a working, athletic woman, a mother, who still finds LOVE in the midst of it all – we’re calling it refreshing, modern, and totally relatable.
