As another month comes to an end, here are my top beauty picks for the month of August.
1. CLEANSING OIL
I’ve been totally loving the Anti/Oxi+ Pollutant & Dullness Cleansing Oil by Shu Uemura. It smells divine and never fails to put me in a state of calm at the end of a long and tiring day. I like to apply three (3) pumps of it onto clean dry hands and press it gently onto my face. I then go in for a deep tissue and lymphatic drainage massage to stimulate micro-circulation and clean out my pores. This oil helps to remove pollution particles on the skin and even removes stubborn waterproof makeup. It contains camellia seed oil that helps to moisturise the skin and prevents it from drying out. It also contains carica papaya extract to slough away dead skin cells to reveal a healthier and smoother skin texture. I’ve been using this for over a month now and it’s definitely a must-have in my daily cleansing routine.
I never used to wear much highlighter but when I first laid my eyes on this Illuminator Powder by Laura Mercier, I knew I had to have it! Before we go on, let’s take a minute to appreciate how beautiful this highlighter looks! It looks like the surface of a golden moon – so pretty! It seems like such a waste to ruin the texture of this product but I swear, it looks amazing on the skin. You can apply it on top of your eyelids, cheekbones, brow bone, inner corners of your eyes and cupid’s bow for a magical iridescent highlight. It comes in various shades to suit fairer to darker skin tones too!
3. EYESHADOW PALETTES
Okay, I have two favourite eyeshadow palettes this month – one has a mixture of matte and shimmery shades while the other is a completely matte one. The former is the Naturally Yours Palette by Zoeva and the latter is Kat Von D’s Shade + Light Eye Contour Quad in Plum. I really adore the pink and plum shades in these palettes – so perfect for the coming Fall season! The textures are also incredibly smooth, highly pigmented and easily blend-able. I like applying the darker shades onto the crease of my eyelids using a MAC 217 blending brush for some subtle definition.
My skin is a little on the dry side and can get really dehydrated at times, especially since I’m working in an air-conditioned environment most of the time. I find that the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream really keeps my skin soft and moisturised all day. I wear it under my sunscreen in the daytime and apply it as a thin mask before I go to bed. If your skin is on the oilier side, you can try Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Oil-Free Gel Cream instead. It has a lighter texture but is still quite hydrating and is suitable for sensitive skin types too.
I’ve been really into darker shades of red on my lips lately, and I always like to double-up my lipstick as a blusher. It has the same texture as a cream blusher and helps to give your cheeks a pretty dewy flush of colour. Shiseido Rouge Rouge offers 16 shades to choose from, while Urban Decay has 100 lipsticks (with every shade imaginable) in their new Vice collection! The By Terry Rouge-Expert Click Stick lipstick bullet comes in a teardrop shape that makes it super easy to line your lips.
6. HAIR OIL
This hair oil by OUAI is lightweight and doesn’t leave your hair feeling oily and heavy. Its scent is a blend of ylang ylang, gardenia, violet and white musk, which leaves your hair feeling and smelling amazing after use. Apply about half a pump onto either dry or damp hair to keep your ends smooth and shiny.
So that rounds up my top picks in beauty for this month! Which of these products have you tried out so far?
