Manolo Blahnik is excited to open its first standalone store in Malaysia this November 2016. The 100 square meters space features the dynamic and immersive Manolo Blahnik environment the brand’s standalone stores are known for.
The new store is designed by Manolo Blahnik’s long term collaborator for the brand’s store design –Nick Leith-Smith Architecture + Design. Each Manolo Blahnik store design and concept is one of its kind, as each store is distinctively unique each time.
The inspiration came from the natural beauty of Malaysia where the architecture practice was drawn to bamboo for its enduring beauty as an evergreen, and as a locally sourced material used widely in furniture and traditional architecture. An elegant bamboo structure is arranged vertically in sinuous path around the shop emulating an abstract forest, carefully incorporated other natural elements both in design and materials. Brass pendant feature lights are suspended from the high ceilings. The herringbone pattern marble floor is in-laid with brass detailing, drawing inspiration from palm leaves, and is mirrored in the brass canopy-like lighting above. Natural woven fabric in rich tropical colours is used for round ottomans and stools and accentuates contrasting metallic and stone finishes.
The shoe collections are also displayed on circular stone topped brass tables. The architect has provided two private spaces for discreet selection featuring beautiful fabric lined walls. Elevating the ubiquitous bamboo, with artful and imaginative design, the clever use of natural geometry all add to the allure of Blahnik’s creations. As always, Manolo Blahnik’s style, humour and playfulness resonate to create a space which reflects the artistry of his shoes.
The Store is located at 2.43.00, level 2, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.
