Taiwanese-Canadian model and actor Godfrey Gao has passed at age 35 after a collapse on set while filming in China. He was a guest participant on Chase Me, a reality show where teams race against one another to win.
The show includes contestants working through a set of obstacles that are designed to be physically trying. One of their episodes even features a course where contestants have to climb up a high building and zipline down.
Typically the show would select those that are in good shape to participate in the show.
The heartthrob, according to the show’s producer, fell and lost consciousness while running in a team event. His heart stopped and after 15 minutes of CPR, it came back. However, the actor passed away at the hospital after two hours’ effort.
The hospital announced that he suffered a sudden cardiac death.
Alongside fans that are mourning his death, Australian actor Remy Hii, star of action film Spider-man: Far From Home, said that the Asian artistic scene would not be the same without him.
In 2011, Godfrey Gao was the first Asian male model to be signed to luxury brand Louis Vuitton’s ad campaign. He also made his mark in Hollywood, appearing in The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones and in China, after he starred in popular TV drama Remembering Lichuan.
